Sofiia came under fire in Kurakhove, Donetsk region. Five minutes before the russian missile arrived, she went inside her house from the street. The shell hit the roof and shattered it. Sofiia received a concussion. She says she was lucky that day because they counted dozens of pieces of debris in the yard later.

Kurakhove has been a frontline town since 2014, and since 2022, it has been subject to heavy shelling by the russian army. The area where Sofiia lives is ravaged by war. Dozens of houses have been burnt and smashed by shells. At the time of the interview, the fighting was taking place just 12 kilometres from the town.
