"The occupiers mined everything in our house, and my son was blown up. My grandchildren now live with us"

Olha's son got hit by a mine. Serhii was killed in the village of Verbivka in the Kharkiv region. This village was under occupation for six months. Olha's two grandchildren were orphaned. Their mother had abandoned them long before the war, and Serhii raised them alone. He also looked after his paralysed mother-in-law.

After the death of her son, Olha took custody of her children. Her daughter also supports her nephews.

The family has experienced a lot of grief. In addition, the woman has a hearing impairment.Unfortunately, her granddaughter Darynka is also hard of hearing. In January 2024, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation purchased a hearing aid for the girl. The family came to Kharkiv for a hearing aid fitting, where Olha told her story of the war.
