Volodymyr Moskalenko is the mayor of Korosten. The Russian troops lacked 30 kilometers to reach the town. Korosten turned into one of the key coordination and transportation centers of the resistance. In two weeks, about 40 thousand people were evacuated through the city.
All efforts were made to help the Ukrainian soldiers – food, accommodation, any other assistance. The local armed population was controlled, and logistics was organized.
At the same time, the enthusiasm of the people was constantly felt, the volunteer movement provided enormous support to the authorities. People grouped together and helped each other. All this was happening under Russian air strikes. More than 300 houses were destroyed or damaged in Korosten. They dropped 300-, 500- and even 1,000-kilogram bombs. People died, but the city survived, making a significant contribution to the overall victory.
