There are no windows in our house. They have been blown out. There is no foundation. A shell exploded at our neighbour’s place, and our windows were blown out.

‘We have never thought that we would live through two wars’

We used to have a good life. A very good, peaceful life. We used to have holidays, celebrations; it was fun. People used to go out, gather in the square; there was music playing. And now, at 7 p.m. there is no one in the street.

It has been five years already since the war has affected me, and my husband too. I can hardly walk. I cannot get out or walk somewhere. My legs are not stable. Twice I fell: I broke my arm, and my leg. I cannot travel anywhere or go to our son.

We have got used to the shelling – and it is very bad. As it could be such shelling that you would not have time to run away. You understand? Earlier, we took cover in basements and cellars, and now we run to an apartment or house.

‘We have never thought that we would live through two wars’

Oh, we have never thought that we would live through two wars.
