“When they started shooting at the convoy, everyone hit the floor...”

When the full-scale war started, Viktor Chebotarov was in his native Mariupol. On February 24, 2022, he, like all Ukrainian schoolchildren, did not go to school... And, starting on February 25, he hid from the shelling in the basement with his mother and grandmother.

For the next three weeks, they rarely went outside. The breaks between the missile strikes and shelling were too short... On March 18, Viktor’s mother decided to leave the city.

The journey to Zaporizhzhia was not an easy one. Halfway there, their car stalled. After that, their car was towed. They had to spend one night in the field. But their trials did not end there – the convoy that included the Chebotarovs’ car was shelled...
