At the end of March 2022, Antonina Yaholnykova and her husband were walking out of war-torn Mariupol. They took with them only two cats. They carried them in their arms! Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Yaholnykov family had been hiding in the basement of an apartment building. Two days after the couple left the shelter, the building burned down completely. It took them almost a week to get to Dnipro, and each day was filled with fear and uncertainty. A year later, Antonina lost her husband. A stroke. It was then that she began to search for spiritual strength through creativity. She joined a group at the humanitarian hub "I’Mariupol," where drawing classes and workshops were held. Antonina discovered new talents in herself that she had never suspected before. She created paintings that helped her distract herself from heavy thoughts.
