In Mariupol, Maria, her little son, and her mother were trying to save their lives in the Drama Theater. We came there on March 4, 2022 because the building walls appeared to be the safest place. However, the woman understood that the enemy could target the theater. That’s why we started looking for a car to leave the city on March 15.
“At 9:00 a.m. in the morning, shells started falling around the theater. Panic sets in. A car stops. A shell falls. I put a child into the car. The driver speeds off, leaving me behind. I barely managed to pull my son out of the car. Then a minibus was driving by. They picked us up. I understood that the theater would be destroyed. Many believed that we were making a mistake. I saw civilian cars burning alongside the road,” recalls Mariupol resident Maria.
