Maria Pleshko

“We ran across the blown-up bridge under fire”

Maria Pleshko’s café was indeed one of the first places where cups of coffee were served in liberated Irpin. While there was no light, as soon as we managed to get into town, they gave all the food away to the frightened and hungry survivors of the occupation. And as soon as the electricity supply was restored, they served their customers through a small window because the broken windows were still covered with film. This is Maria’s account of the occupation: the Russians stole the generator, and all the electronics disappeared as well, including a tablet and phones. This is her story.
