Liubov Petrenchuk was born and lived her whole life in the city of Orikhiv. The first days of the war, Ms. Liubov recalls, were relatively calm, but after just three days the situation sharply worsened. Shelling became more frequent, and the family was forced to hide in the basement. They spent most of their time there.
April 28, 2022 — one of the most terrifying days. Russian shelling was so intense that the house was shaking from the explosions. At that time, they didn’t know whether they would survive until morning. Another horror was a direct hit on a neighboring house, where a couple she knew well was killed. Eventually, Liubov and her family were forced to leave Orikhiv. They took only the most necessary things — documents and medicine. The Petrenchuk family's home burned down during the fighting.
