“We were getting out through the forest, carrying my younger sister in our arms”

Khrystyna and her family fled the war through the forest. In March 2022, their village in the Kyiv region was captured by the russian military.  Her little sister, Khrystyna recalls, was carried in the arms. Because of an abscess on her leg, she could not move. It was scary to get lost!

Later, the family met the Ukrainian military. They took the refugees out of the dangerous area.

Khrystyna told her war story during her rehabilitation under the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation's Peaceful Recreation for Children of Ukraine project.
