In March 2022, after the first rocket strikes on Pokrovsk, Iryna Bessarab and her family decided to evacuate to Dnipro. At that time, the woman was hopeful, and her mother was suffering from cancer, which also influenced their decision to leave. The woman visited Pokrovsk several times. But the last visit to her hometown left bitter memories in her heart: a half-destroyed city.
The family experienced one of the most terrible moments in Dnipro. On January 14, 2024, the city was shelled. A rocket destroyed a neighbouring high-rise building. 46 people died then, 6 of them were children, and almost 80 were injured. The blast wave also damaged Iryna's rented apartment. And the woman's mother almost found herself in the epicentre of the explosion.
