She almost died and miraculously did not lose her eyesight... Olena Strilets was hiding in one of the bomb shelters in Lysychansk almost from the first days of the full-scale war. It was dark, very cold and damp in the basement of the Palace of Culture. In moments of calm, people would go to the first floor to warm up and get some air. One day, during this respite, the shelling suddenly started. The shell hit right where people were sitting. There were many dead and wounded. Olena Strilets sustained a severe mine-blast injury. At the time, her mother and sister were cooking over a fire. She still does not know whether they survived that day. Olena was taken to hospital, but she has no contact with her family - Lysychansk was soon occupied.
