Vera Grechyshkina recalls the days when her family could not leave the basement for several days in a row. They lit the shelter with homemade candle wicks. They burned some rags soaked in oil. One day, their “basement neighbour” went out for a walk with the dog. A sudden shelling attack! The man and the pet were killed by shell fragments.

The Grechyshkin family just barely got onto the evacuation buses. The journey to the territory controlled by Ukraine took two days. They ended up in Dnipro. The family was given some rooms in a social hostel for IDPs.
