In Khalepya, a village by the Dnipro, a small volunteer workshop is at work. At the front, it is known as the “Khalepya Ghillies.” Since 2022, women here have been weaving camouflage nets, suits, and capes for the soldiers. One of the volunteers is Valentyna Demeniuk. She is local and works together with her daughter. The workshop brings together around ten women, and several dozen more help remotely. Almost every one of them has someone fighting in the war. Valentyna’s own uncle is missing in action. So for her this is not just volunteering, but a way to help — even if only through a thread, through a piece of fabric. The most heart-warming moments are when soldiers call and say: “Your ghillie suit saved a life.”
