Together with her daughter and granddaughter, Halyna was hiding in the basement of her apartment block. Her husband went to work, he worked as a security guard. On the morning March 11, 2022, a Russian plane dropped a bomb on the building where her husband was staying. Hundreds of Mariupol residents died with him.

"I've seen so many corpses during this time. They were like mannequins in a shop, with smoothed facial features and black skin, and then the excavator would load them up. We saw both arms and legs. They were loaded with construction waste. At the morgue, I wore two masks over my face. The corpses were lying in the rain like garbage, lying in the mud all over the yard, " says Halyna, a resident of Mariupol.
