“Grandma whispered, "Let it not lead to war”

I remember this day very clearly. I was about eight years old. In the evening I went into the room with my grandmother, it was already dark outside, and she was watching TV. A news report from Kyiv was on. A public rally gathered on Maidan Nezalezhnosti. There were many people wearing hoodies and volunteers.

Shifting my gaze to my grandmother, I saw a misunderstanding and fear in her eyes. The she started whispering, “Let it not lead to war ... Let it not lead to war”.

I did not understand the meaning of her words back then, but they still sound in my head when I remember my home and the city that I can’t get into now.
