On 24 February, Valeriia's family woke up at three in the morning. Her father, who was a military man, received a phone call and was alerted.

"He switched on the light, and we realised the war had started. My mother and I jumped on our beds because of the explosions. Dad was already in the military unit. Then the windows blew out. We went to live with friends. On 17 March, we left. The circle was narrowing. And I got behind the wheel, even though I had just got my licence," told Valeriia, a resident of Mariupol.
