Alexander managed to escape from the shelling from the village of Rubizhny to Starobilsk, but his husband's heart could not withstand such stress. He died of a heart attack in hospital.

Oleksandr Cherevko died on Saturday, April 9, during the evacuation from Rubizhne, Luhansk region.
He managed to get out from the shelling in Starobilsk, and then, in the local hospital, he died from a heart attack which could have been caused by the problems with his lungs due to the explosion of the nitrogen tank.

“Mom pulled herself together, found the funeral home, and they solved everything fast. He was buried in a civilized way, not at the children’s playground like they do in Rubizhne now. They gave the name to the whole row in the Starobilsk cemetery - Rubizhanska, all our people are lying there,” — says his daughter Kateryna.
She said when her parents were packing for the evacuation, they had a minimum of things, but Daddy asked her mother to take her school medals along because that was something to be proud about. “My medals for judo and a silver medal for school achievements. Now I am holding these medals in my hands and understand that it is a pure concentration of love and care.”

Oleksandr Cherevko was Russian, he had been living in Russia for 30 years, but during the last month of his life, he started hating his motherland.
“I regret so much that he wasn’t able to see Lviv to which he was going; I had dreamed about showing this city to him, but he had refused to come. He agreed only during the war. I saw many Rubizhne residents who had their first glance of a peaceful city after a month of staying in basements, a month without water, electricity, heating, pharmacies, and humanitarian aid.
