"Why Ukraine Needs a Unified War Archive and How to Create It": A Public Interview with Representatives of the State Archival Service to Take Place at the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation's Museum of Civilian Voices

Russia’s war against Ukraine continues, and tragic events are being documented every day. Within the professional community, there is an active discussion on how to consolidate and preserve the entire body of records — not only as part of Ukraine’s history but also as a foundation for justice and accountability after the war.

The Museum of Civilian Voices by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has launched a platform to discuss the future of documenting and archiving war-related data. On May 15, the series of public interviews will feature Anatolii Khromov, Head of the State Archival Service of Ukraine, and Tetiana Shevchenko, First Deputy Head of the State Archival Service of Ukraine.

The discussion will focus on the topic: “Why Ukraine Needs a Unified War Archive and How to Create It.”
The conversation will be moderated by Nataliya Yemchenko, Director of Communications at SCM and a member of the Supervisory Board of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.

Key discussion points include:

  • Access to truth as one of the core principles of transitional justice;

  • Documenting vs. archiving: what’s the difference and why both are essential;

  • How to ensure a complete and unified documentary base and foster cooperation between state institutions and civil society.

Admission is free with confirmed registration at the Museum of Civilian Voices.
