Join us for a curator-led tour of the exhibition "Kateryna's Diary. Mariupol. War 2022."

A special feature of the evening will be a live reading of diary excerpts by Rymma Zyubina, one of Ukraine's most celebrated actresses. Her powerful performance will allow visitors to experience Kateryna's journey anew – a shared moment of memory, hope, and resilience.

Kateryna Savenko, 42, worked at the Illich Iron and Steel Works in Mariupol. She began keeping a personal diary on the first day of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Across two notebooks, she recorded 34 entries documenting her family's and neighbors' lives under siege – the shelling, the search for water and food, nights spent in a basement, the destruction of the city, and memories of the peaceful Mariupol they had lost.

On March 29, Kateryna's husband, Vitalii, was killed during shelling, while Kateryna herself was severely injured. She passed away on April 4. Before her death, Kateryna asked her sister to find her diaries and tell the world the truth about what happened in Mariupol. She also asked her daughter to preserve the notebooks. Her family fulfilled her final wish. They managed to recover the two notebooks and bring them out of the occupied city.

The diaries later became part of the archive of the Museum of Civilian Voices by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and served as the basis for a dedicated publication.

Now Kateryna's story will be heard once again – through the voice of an actress and the pages of a diary that has become both a testament to the tragedy of Mariupol and a powerful document of human courage.We invite you to join us in honoring a memory that must never be lost.
