"1000 Days of war. My way" – stories from the winners of Ukraine's National Essay Contest by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

The national essay contest, "1000 Days of War. My Way," organised by the Museum of Civilian Voices by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, has concluded, amplifying voices from across Ukraine. This year’s competition received over 4,000 submissions, each reflecting the resilience and courage of Ukrainians during some of their darkest days. The winning essays have been curated into a special collection by the Museum, offering a deeply moving perspective on 1,000 days of war through the eyes of ordinary people.

Each essay captures a deeply personal journey through the hardships of war. These stories recount the pain of loss, the longing for peace, and cherished memories of pre-war life. Yet, they are also filled with hope, unwavering belief in victory, and a profound love for their homeland.

Despite the adversity, Ukrainian youth and educators display remarkable strength and creativity. Their narratives are brimming with dreams of peace, aspirations for a happy life in a free country, and the hope of reuniting with their homes and loved ones.

The collection, "1000 Days of War. My Way," serves as a powerful testament to how war transforms lives while failing to break the human spirit. These stories remind us that even in the darkest times, it is vital to dream, act, and hold onto hope for a better future.

The Museum of Civilian Voices by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation remains committed to preserving these testimonies, ensuring they become an enduring part of Ukraine’s history.
